The Reason For The Season

The Reason For The Season

My friend is Judy Harris, and she has endured decades of a multitude of health challenges. AND YET…I have never known her to grumble or complain. She has had an opportunity to share the love of Jesus to every person, in and out of the hospital and care facilities, with grace and love that is unfathomable. She was able to let God shine out of the cracks in her human frailty. I have known only a small handful of people with such intense love for God and those He has put in their path. God trusted her with a mission that only a few could fulfill.

Christmas is where God’s earthly example of Love begins. Jesus laid down His divine nature and took on the nature of man. He did this to show us our who our Heavenly Father is and His love for us. Jesus said in John 14:7:

“If you really know me, you will know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.”

New International Version (NIV)

So, what is the description of what that love looks like that we can imitate? Paul tells us this:

“Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth.  Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

Love never ends…”

I Corinthians 13: 4-13 ESV

It is a season to remember it’s not what we have, what we get, or even our circumstances. It is what we do, give, and express in our attitude, words we speak, and the things we do for those around us. We are not here to take up space, see how much we can acquire, or let time escape us.

We are here for a purpose. It is in our weakness, strength; our fragility or stability; in what we have or have not, that we have a Savior who loves us so much He came to show us Himself how to love as He does. He has a passion to love us even when we aren’t easy to love. He has a desire for us to love the way we have been loved by Him.

Judy was a living example of God’s hands and feet this is true but even more importantly she was the exemplar of His passionate and undying love God has for every one of us.
