In His Time
“LORD, please show me every day! As You’re teaching me Your way, That You do just what you say! In Your time!” - Maranatha Singers
The key line is “In Your time,” oh, this one is hard some days! I am a “get things accomplished”; check off my list of “to-dos” kind of a person.
Remembering that God’s timing is not necessarily my timing is a challenge to my personal growth. Sometimes it feels like watching the paint dry right after painting a room, which you did but that wasn’t your driving force. The driving force was the creative thing you were doing with the room as soon as the painting was done. But without the foundation of painting the fun and creative part won’t have the desired result.
How often do we want to enjoy the fun part not the mundane or hard part?
“Please show me every day, as You are teaching me your way, that You do just what you say …in YOUR time.” It is not about the end that is so important. Often, it is what we are learning about God, about Christ; who He is; what was His example; what was His guidance to us.
There are times as we wait for “His Time” that the most important thing is to be present, not looking ahead but be where we are, at the moment. Consider those words of wisdom and direction then applying them. How are we affecting those people and circumstances around us, those things that are right in front of us?
In Matthew 5, Matthew explains that Jesus wasn’t speaking to the crowds but in fact only to those who were apprenticed to Him, committed to climbing the hillside with Him, those who were Jesus followers. This is the way He wants us to live this life, with purpose, conviction, humility and His passionate Love.
“When Jesus saw his ministry drawing huge crowds, he climbed a hillside. Those who were apprenticed to him, the committed, climbed with him. Arriving at a quiet place, he sat down and taught his climbing companions.”
This is what he said:
“You’re blessed when you’re at the end of your rope. With less of you, there is more of God and His rule.
You’re blessed when you feel you’ve lost what is most dear to you. Only then can you be embraced by the One “most dear” to you.
You’re blessed when you’re content with just who you are – no more, no less. That’s the moment you find yourselves proud owners of everything that couldn’t be bought.
You’re blessed when you’ve worked up a good appetite for God. He’s food and drink in the best meal you’ll ever eat.
You’re blessed when you care. At the moment of being ‘care-full,’ you find yourselves cared for.
You’re blessed when you get your inside world – your mind and heart – put right. Then you can see God in the outside world.
You’re blessed when you can show people how to cooperate instead of competing or fight. That’s when you discover who you really are, and your place in God’s family.
You’re blessed when your commitment to God provokes persecution. The persecution drives you even deeper into God’s kingdom.”
Matthew 5:1-10 The Message (MSG)
His challenge is to those He’s called to apprentice, those who will climb the mountain and sit with Him.
This is how He wants us to act towards one another and to everyone we meet. This is how He wants us to react in the circumstances we are in every day. Are we listening? Are we applying His words to our lives?
It is not just about the “events, activity and people” in our life but in fact our character, attitude and commitment to climb the mountain with Him; to hear His words, and to ultimately apply them to what we do and how we do it.
Every day I need to stop and take a deep breath and remember, “Lord, my life to You I bring! May each song I have to sing, Be to You a lovely thing! IN YOUR TIME!”
Will we climb the mountain with Him today and every day?
